I’m Shannon Kiger, a watercolor artist living in Raleigh, NC, who grew up in Butler, PA. Creativity has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. I was the kid who wanted to try every kind of art, from sewing and pottery to sculpture and photography. As an adult, photography became my first love.  It taught me to pay close attention to light and how it changes everything it touches. That way of seeing has carried over beautifully into my watercolor painting.

 

Watercolor came into my life at a time when I needed a creative outlet just for myself, and it quickly grew into a source of peace and inspiration. What started as an outlet, quickly became a passion. I am a mostly self-taught watercolor artist, learning through online courses and drawing endless inspiration from other artists who share their craft in digital spaces. I love exploring new techniques, and I especially love the smooth, luminous surface of hot-pressed paper.

 

As well as being an artist, I am also a dental hygienist. In my dental career, I’ve found unexpected connections to art. My steady hands and attention to fine details show up in the brushstrokes of my paintings. For me, watercolor is more than just paint on paper; it’s a way to slow down, notice the light, and capture a sense of calm and joy. My hope is that when others see my work, they feel that same peace and wonder that painting brings to me.
